Kaleb Border's Story
Kaleb was born October 30, 2007. He was full term, perfect baby. He had a Normal 4th birthday & just 3 days later on 11/2/2011, I found him that morning having a seizure in his bed, he got airlifted to Riley hospital. After several scans, tests & a biopsy over 3 month span we found out on 2/3/2012 he had stage 3 Anaplastic Astryocytoma.
His tumor was inoperable. He also lost all the strength in his left hand from the 1st seizure. He underwent 33 sessions of radiation along w/ 42 days of oral chemo, which stopped his hand seizures. A few months later they found another tumor so he went through 2 IV chemos, when they didn't work for the new tumor, he did a phase 1 study, when it didn't work, we were out of options because that gave him severe nerve damage. |
He was sent home on Hospice. Kaleb fought for 21 months & transitioned for 5 days. On 8/12/2013 at 7:33am he earned his angel wings as a train went past our house. We were so grateful that during his fight with all his treatments, he rarely had any side effects from any of them until the last study treatment. We were blessed he got the quality of life he did while he was here in his short time. He loved monster trucks, racing, his tv shows & movies. He had an amazing passion for trains & numbers, he loved counting everything. He was extremely smart, polite & caring. He loved school & took great care of all his toys & every stuffed animal had a name Kaleb had given them. He was truly a one of a kind special boy & everyone that met him, fell in love with him & his passion for life. Kaleb is forever 5 years old because of brain cancer.
